A major version of FFmpeg has been released. FFmpeg is a cross-platform SDK to read and write audio and video. FFmpeg is used in many important projects like VLC (VideoLAN).

I remember x264 team said that GPU computations are absolutely unusable for video encoding, that’s why they don’t plan to add it to their x264 codec.
x264 does have OpenCL for lookahead.
OpenCl here most sure is for video filtering not coding/encoding
yes it’s useless for encoding but they also said it can be used for searching when analyzing the video .
